Race Report by Sarah

A perfect evening for grass track racing yesterday and despite our concerns, the track was freshly mown and had survived last weeks triathlon fine. Numbers, particularly for the adult fixed wheel were strangely low – apparently there was a football match or two on? This meant a quick rearrange of the programme and some crowd-pleasing slow races and parent race added in.
We welcomed 2 new riders who immediately had to race a 1/2 lap time trial, then the sprint races began, quickly followed by the longer 2 or 3 lap races. Some close and competitive races were only spoiled by a heavy crash -hope both boys are okay today.
A meagre fixed wheel field started off the handicap races – it’s always good to watch the ‘hares’ being chased down bit by bit, and sometimes they stay away, but this week, alex Foley swept past for the win. More close handicap races for our younger racers followed, plus a ‘devil’. It was then time for the slow races – these can really take some time as the riders display great bike control whilst barely moving. Byron Jacques, sally Asquith, and seb cliffe showed off their skills to great effect, winning their respective races.
Parents on childs’ bike was a bit of fun (great advantage if you’re a similar size to your child) before the fixed wheel devil finished off the evening with Chris Barnes riding strongly for the win.

Well done to all riders; many thanks to all the volunteers.
